RF Ablation (Thermal Ablation of the Nodule)

The traditional treatment approach for cystic thyroid nodules has been to first drain the cyst several times using a needle. If the cyst recurred, the lobe of the thyroid gland containing the cyst was then surgically removed.

With the Radiofrequency Ablation (RF) method, these cysts are first drained, and then the remaining cyst contents are vaporized by applying radiofrequency energy.

This procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The patient can return home on the same day or, depending on the extent of the procedure, after 24 hours.
